I’m a big believer in not talking very often before you meet. If you spend hours talking on the phone, your conversation in person will be strained. Some people want to find out all the little details about each other before they meet, but that isn’t necessary. Attraction speaks for itself. You can spend 6 hours on the phone every night for a week and think that you will get along great. But if you meet and there’s no attraction, all that phone time will be wasted.

My advice is to keep the talking to a minimum and just meet. It makes it more exciting to find out the intricate details about each other face to face. I also like to put a face to a name. I don’t like hearing someone’s voice and not knowing what they look like.

Don’t be afraid of a blind date. Blind dates are adventurous. Before I go on a date, I don’t believe in having lengthy phone conversations. Sure, I appreciate a phone call to set up the plans, but I make sure to keep it just that. I don’t ask the man how his day was and what he did this past weekend. I find out the time and location and tell him that I’m looking forward to our date. This way, if he isn’t a big talker, I know I have something to ask him in person. If he is a big talker, then you’re connection will be real, and not exist over the phone.

Technology has taken over the world and with email, texting, skype, and blackberry messenger, there’s always a way to communicate without meeting face to face. I suggest being daring and not talking too much before you meet.

Matchmakers Wise Food Choice

When you are out with a date, pay attention to the types of foods you eat.

First date food choices are tricky. At least I think so. I’m a very picky and boring eater, so restaurants with interesting menus don’t appeal to me. Put a piece of grilled chicken on a plate with some sautéed veggies, and I’m happy. This week my Matchmaker mom gave me the task of coming up with a menu of what not to eat on a first date. I gave it some thought and came up with 4 top choices.

Food #1: Salad

Rule #1 of dating – don’t ever order a salad. There are very few guys that like to date a girl with eating issues, and ordering a salad as your meal sends the wrong signals. My dating coach says that men are attracted to women who like to eat, and I agree. An appetite is sexy. A guy wouldn’t ask you to join him for dinner if he wanted to watch you order something extremely healthy. When your date reflects on your time together, you don’t want him to remember you as “the girl who ordered a salad.”

Food #2: Spaghetti

I personally love pasta. I think it’s delicious and a safe choice price wise. You don’t want to order something too expensive, and pasta is usually priced just right. However, there’s a big difference between pasta and spaghetti. Pasta, such as penne, can be eaten politely and perhaps with some sex appeal. Spaghetti on the other hand, makes a mess regardless of how you eat it. Even if you use a spoon to twirl the spaghetti, it can still splatter all over you. You want to turn your date on, not have him think you’re a slob.

Food #3: Chicken Wings

Recently, barbecue restaurants have become pretty popular. I’m not sure how many first dates would end up at a barbecue restaurant, but just in case, stay away from the chicken wings. You might think it’s sexy to eat with your hands and get all messy, but it’s not. No guy wants to look at a girl with sauce all over her face, unless of course it’s his “special sauce.”

Food #4: Spinach and leafy greens

On a date it’s wise to stay away from all greens. Greens are in the same category as beans. Eat them by yourself or with a girlfriend, but don’t ever order them on a date. Spinach in particular is tricky because it can get stuck in your teeth. Nothing would be more embarrassing than to have food stuck in your teeth on a first date. When you flash your signature smile, you want your date to see your pearly whites, not a chunk of spinach. After all, you don’t want to be known as the girl who had food stuck in her teeth all night.

The four B's do count ladies and I'm just the messenger: beauty, brains, body and balance- you must have all four of those. There are ways to improve your appearance. men like classy women, women with a sense of style, well dressed, well put together women that are dressed age appropriate. You can still look youthful by being sexy. I will tell you one thing, Coco Chanel said many years ago, "There is no such thing as an ugly woman, just a lazy woman."

Men do not like women that wear big clothing so they cannot see your body. Men do not like women that dress slutty- don't think that sexy means boobs out- it's actually the complete antithesis. Hand in hand, looks go with weight. It's beauty, brains, body and balance and body means that you live a healthy lifestyle. You take care of your body and you exercise.

If you need help in this area, there are many weight loss clinics, health clubs, fitness clubs, etc. Not only will find you more attractive, how about the fact that you will love yourself if you look in the mirror and you look amazing. Any clothes fit, anything looks great on you, even if it's sweatpants and a t-shirt. You can out in a ponytail- it doesn't matter.

If you've been following my advice girls, you have to do the "hello" challenge. I'd like you to say hello to three men a week. Make sure you are smiling and see if you can get a conversation going.

I always like to use a prop, "I love the leather on your briefcase," "Is that my cell phone or yours?" "What kind of wine are you drinking?" "Have you ever been to a place as loud as this one- I can't even hear myself talk!" "You've got absolutely magnificent blue eyes- they match your shirt!" etc. etc. etc.

I have many many many more pick up lines ladies, but it's not necessarily about my lines, it's about what you say, the confidence that you exude, and how you feel.

If you are with a guy and the relationship is going nowhere, ditch him! I have three-month rules, six-month rules and on and on and on. Come on ladies, it's a new year! It's a new you! You can do it!
